This past year we have gone through a major diet overhaul. A few years back when the coupon craze hit I went crazy. I had a stockpile that could feed us for months. But we felt horrible. And we couldn’t lose a pound if we tried. It was no wonder when our diet consisted of cereal, snack bars, Hamburger Helper and canned soup. You know, the stuff you stockpile when it’s pennies on the dollar.

My husband and I are both business owners. That means we are accountable to no one but ourselves. If you aren’t feeling refreshed, energized and productive it is going to effect your work. What effects your work impacts your paycheck.

We weren’t eating a lot of calories or fried foods so that left us with one culprit – all of that refined junk. It had to go. We went clean.

There were a few yummy ingredients for our new recipes that we couldn’t find at our local grocery stores. That brought us to Whole Foods. <Cue the angels singing.> Oh how we love that place. Oh how our wallet doesn’t.

To cut down on the massive budget-buster this place can be, I set out to find a few ways to save money at Whole Foods.

How you eat is going to significantly impact how you work from home. Today we are sharing a seven ways to save money at Whole Foods.

Don’t go on sample day. Or at least don’t take your husband with you on sample day. No matter what you say to yourself before walking into the store, you are SO buying what you try.

Search for your deli favorites on Pinterest. There are so many delightful things at the deli counter and salad bar. So many. When you fall in love with something like Sriracha-Roasted Brussels Sprouts, hit up Pinterest for the recipe. Learn to make it and save yourself the $15 per pound.

Only the necessities. A lot of things you will be able find at your local grocery store and cheaper. Even our HyVee has a little healthy, gluten-free section back in the corner. Get what you can at your regular stores and save the specialty items for Whole Foods shopping.

Get in on the deals. Whole Foods has an email newsletter and a Facebook Page where they post deals. They also have a Whole Deal coupon book available in-store you should grab on every trip. Always shop the sales. Always!

Bring your coupons. Of course you can use coupons at Whole Foods. And more healthy brands are making them available. Check your Sunday paper or the deal matchups at CouponMom.com when making your shopping list.

Buy in bulk. I don’t just mean the bulk bins. Any item. Many stores offer a 10% discount when buying an unopened case of your favorite food item. This works out well for boxed or canned goods. The same goes for many of their meats. Save around $.50/lb when buying 3 or more pounds.

Use your apps! I love my grocery apps and many now work at Whole Foods and beyond.

Are you eating healthier as a work-at-homer? How are you saving money?
